How to Repot Leggy Tomato Seedlings

Got tomato seedlings that have stretched too tall and look like they’re auditioning for Little Shop of Horrors? Don’t worry – in this video, Michael show you how to safely repot leggy tomato sprouts and give them the support they need to grow strong and healthy.

No fancy tools, no stress – just a quick, effective fix for floppy seedlings. Perfect for beginners and plant nerds alike!

  1. Tomatoes grow upwards and can develop roots along their stem, so it’s a good idea to leave extra space for soil in the pot. That way, if the seedling stretches, you can easily add more soil to support it.

  2. If there’s no room for extra soil, you can simply repot the seedling into a larger container and bury it deeper – or do as Michael shows in the video: gently lift the seedling and replant it deeper in fresh soil.

  3. Use seed starting mix or coconut coir when germinating for the best results – both are light, airy, and gentle on young roots.

  4. Worm castings are excellent for seedlings and young plants during their growth phase, as they’re rich in nitrogen and full of beneficial micronutrients.
