Connection Issues?

Here’s How to Make Sure Your Router Uses 2.4 GHz WiFi

Some devices, including the CultiKit controller, require a 2.4 GHz WiFi connection to work properly. If you’re having trouble connecting, your router may be using 5 GHz or switching between both frequencies automatically.

What’s the Difference Between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz?

  • 2.4 GHz has a longer range and better wall penetration but offers lower speeds.
  • 5 GHz is faster but has a shorter range and may struggle to reach devices further from the router.
  • Many modern routers automatically switch between these frequencies, but some smart devices can only use 2.4 GHz.

How to Ensure Your Router Uses 2.4 GHz

1. Check Your WiFi Network Name (SSID)
Some routers display two separate networks, such as:
✅ “MyWiFi-2.4G” (Use this for CultiApp)
❌ “MyWiFi-5G” (Avoid this if your device requires 2.4 GHz)

If your router doesn’t show separate networks, it likely uses “band steering” to switch automatically. In that case, you may need to manually disable 5 GHz in your router settings.

2. Switch to 2.4 GHz in Your Router Settings
If you can’t see a dedicated 2.4 GHz network, try this:
1️⃣ Open a web browser and enter your router’s IP address (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1).
2️⃣ Log in with your username and password (usually found on the router label).
3️⃣ Navigate to Wireless Settings or WiFi Settings.
4️⃣ Disable 5 GHz temporarily or create a separate 2.4 GHz network.
5️⃣ Restart your router and try connecting your device again.

3. Check Your Internet Provider’s Guide

If you’re unsure how to change these settings, check your internet provider’s website or contact their support team.
